The Consumption Groups map shows the estimation profiles used to determine the expected consumption of utility services (electricity, gas, water, heat, etc.) when real meter data is not yet available.
Consumption groups help with:
determining estimated consumption
calculating advance payments
creating estimated invoices
comparing actual vs. expected consumption
support of forecasts & reporting
Each consumption group contains a typical annual consumption for a specific building type or consumption profile.
What you see on the Consumption Groups map
The map shows for each utility service on the contract:
Utility icon (electricity, gas, water, heat, etc.)
Consumption group selection (dropdown)
Estimated Annual Volume (EAP)
Unit of measurement (kWh, m³, …)
How Consumption Groups are used
Billing
Consumption groups are used to:
Estimated invoices to be calculated when meter readings are missing
advance amounts to be determined
predict annual consumption
As soon as real meter readings become available, the system automatically replaces the estimates.
Reporting & analysis
Within the Consumption tab:
comparison between estimated and actual consumption
insights into possible deviations
identifying contracts that require revision
Contract design
During Move-In or contract creation:
the system automatically selects a suitable consumption group
the user can customize this
will changes be included in future invoices and advances?
Display elements
Each utility is displayed as a separate section:
utility icon
dropdown with available consumption groups
input field for estimated annual consumption
unit of measurement
If no groups are available:
No compatible consumption groups for given product and location
Consumption groups are filtered based on:
product configuration
property group
utility type
unit of measure
Estimated annual consumption
This is:
the expected consumption over 12 months
basis for advances, estimates and reporting
depending on the type of home, business or installation
Example:
Electricity small house: 3,500 kWh
Gas apartment: 1,200 m³
Water family: 60 m³
Problem | Solution |
No available consumption groups | The product does not support consumption billing, or no suitable groups exist. Please contact management. |
Incorrect or missing units | Check product configuration; adjust the unit in the master data. |
Values are overwritten | Re-highlight manual entries; automatic updates will only update default values. |
Data doesn't seem to match | Verify property group or building type; select a more suitable group. |
Multiple locations | The first location determines available groups; all locations with the same utility share the same selection. |
Problem | Solution |
Consumption groups are not displayed | Check contract status and features; contact admin |
Dropdown is empty | Check product configuration or add new groups |
Changes are not saved | Please fill in all fields, check permissions, try again. |
Estimated volume seems unrealistic | Select a different profile or adjust volume manually |
Volume will be changed automatically afterwards | Reset the value as Manual Entry |
Can I create my own consumption groups?
Yes, but only administrators via the configuration section.
What if I don't set a consumption group?
System uses default values where available, but this may result in inaccurate estimates.
Can different locations use different groups?
Not within the same utility type: one selection per utility.
Does changing the group affect invoices that have already been created?
No, changes will only apply to future billing.
What is the difference between a consumption group and actual consumption?
Consumption group = estimate.
Actual consumption = meter data.
Can I delete a consumption group?
Only admins can delete them from master data.
Why do I see multiple options for the same utility?
Can happen with multiple units or meter configurations.
What does 'Manual Entry' mean?
You changed the value → the system does not automatically replace it.
How do consumption groups affect advance payments?
The higher the annual consumption, the higher the calculated advance payments.
Why do consumption groups change automatically after Move-In?
The system chooses based on property group and product configuration.
Consumption Group – template with typical annual consumption for a specific type of home/building.
Estimated Annual Volume – estimated annual consumption, basis for advances and estimates.
Unit of Measure (UoM) – unit of consumption (kWh, m³…).
Utility Type – type of service such as electricity, gas, water, heat.
Metering Type – how consumption is measured (actual, estimated, calculated).
Property Group – category of building type or property profile.
Required Estimation – Product configuration that determines which estimates are required.
Manual Entry – User-adjusted value that will not be automatically overwritten.
Default Consumption Profile – suggested value linked to a consumption group.
