Meter detail page - Muting rules

Updated over a week ago

Muting rules are used to temporarily suppress alerts for specific types of meter problems on a meter.

Mute rules are designed for situations like maintenance, planned work, or known issues, where notifications are temporarily irrelevant. They reduce noise in the system without affecting data collection or issue logging.

Overview – What does this section show?

The Damping Rules section shows all damping rules created for the selected meter. A distinction is made between:

  • Active Mute Rules – Rules that are currently suppressing warnings

  • Expired Mute Rules – Rules whose expiration date has passed

What is visible and which actions are available depends on:

  • The status of the rule (Active or Expired)

  • The user's rights

Layout

Active mute rules

Shows all currently active rules. For each rule, the following is displayed:

  • Issue type

    • The type of metering issue for which warnings are muted

  • Period

    • Start and end date of the damping period

  • Reason (optional)

    • Free explanation why warnings are muted

  • Created by

    • Avatar of the user who created the rule

  • Actions

    • Option to cancel the rule

Expired muting rules

Shows historical rules that are no longer active:

  • Same information as for active rules

  • Read-only

  • No change or cancellation options

Empty status

  • If no rules exist, the message “No mutation rules found” will be displayed.

  • The tabs display badges with the number of active and expired rules.

Actions

Creating mute rules

  1. Open the meter details page

  2. Go to Mute Rules

  3. Click on the “+ Add icon

  4. Select the problem type you want to mute

    • Week – 7 days (standard)

    • Month – 30 days

Important points to note:

  • Rules take effect immediately

  • Only one issue type can be selected per line

  • A new rule for the same issue type automatically cancels an existing rule

  • Rules apply only to the current meter

Cancel mute rule

  • Only possible with active rules

  • Click the menu (⋯) next to the line

  • Select Cancel and confirm

Consequences of cancellation:

  • Alerts are generated immediately

  • The rule is moved to the Expired Mute Rules tab

  • The rule cannot be reactivated

Behaviors & Logic

What is being dampened?

Mute rules suppress warnings for specific issue types, such as:

  • Negative Consumption

  • Measurement Frequency Too Low

When a rule is active:

  • New issues of this type are marked with the status Muted

  • No notifications or alerts are sent

  • Issues remain visible in the system

  • Data collection continues normally

What is not affected?

Rules for muting:

  • Stop no data import

  • Remove no existing issues

  • Have no influence on other meters

  • Prevent manual issue creation
