What are consumption groups?

Consumption groups are a way to group customers who share a common characteristic, such as housing type or usage profile. When you register a move-in, you’ll be able to select a consumption group in addition to a product. All customers in the same consumption group use the same service and have the same unit of measurement (e.g. kWh, GJ, or m³).

What are consumption groups used for in Zero Friction?

Zero Friction groups all users who consume the same service and are measured in the same unit. In each consumption group, you’ll see the average consumption displayed under "Amount" (Quantity).

You can check the consumption groups via Configuration ⚙️ > Meter > Consumption Groups

👉 This average is especially useful when there is not enough historical data for a specific customer. In that case, Zero Friction uses the average of the selected consumption group to estimate invoices or advance payments.

Default and custom consumption groups

Zero Friction provides a list of default consumption groups, created by us. However, you can also create custom groups, where you define your own grouping criteria.

To create a new group:

  1. Go to Configuration ⚙️ > Meter > Consumption Groups

  2. Click + Add

  3. Enter a name and description

  4. Select the service and unit of measurement

  5. Fill in the average consumption under "Amount"

Assigning and changing consumption groups

Assigning during contract creation

When selecting a product during contract setup, you can also select a consumption group from the list of suggested groups.

Changing via a new contract or location group

  • You can change the consumption group by creating a new contract.

  • Or assign a consumption group to a Location Group:

    • Go to Location Group > Settings

    • Choose which service you want to link to a consumption group
