Configuration - Meters - Models

Updated over a week ago

The Models section of the meter configuration forms your organization's device catalog. Here you define which meter devices (brands and models) are supported and how meters of that type are configured by default.

Meter models are important because they:

  • ensure consistent recording of meters

  • reusable channel templates provide

  • speed up meter creation and reduce errors

What does this part show?

The Models page shows a table of all configured meter models.

Per model you will see:

  • Name – Model name (e.g. SmartMeter Pro)

  • Brand Name – Manufacturer or brand (e.g., EnergyTech)

  • Description – Optional description

In other parts of the system, models are represented as:
Brand Name – Model Name (for example EnergyTech – SmartMeter Pro).

Layout

Meter models (table overview)

The table contains:

  • sortable columns

  • search functionality by name and brand

  • actions per row (edit/delete, if allowed)

In the absence of models, an empty status is shown.

Model details

When opening or creating a model, you configure:

General information

  • Name (required)

  • Brand Name (required)

  • Description (optional)

Registers

Registers define which measurement channels are automatically available for meters of this model.

Per register you configure:

  • Description

  • Reading Frequency (e.g., Hourly, Daily, N/A)

  • Increment Type (e.g. Cumulative)

  • Measurement type (e.g. Consumption, Production)

  • Utility Type (Electricity, Gas, Water, etc.)

  • Direction (Collection, Injection, Not applicable)

  • Unit (kWh, m³, etc.)

  • Time of Use (optional)

Behaviors & Logic

Use of models in meters

  • When creating a meter, selecting a model is mandatory

  • If a model contains channel templates:

    • can these be applied automatically

    • are the channels configured correctly in advance?

Example
Model: EnergyTech – SmartMeter Pro
Channel Templates:

  • Electricity – Consumption – Purchase – kWh – Hourly

  • Electricity – Production – Injection – kWh – Hourly

Result: When creating a meter, both channels are created automatically.

Changes to models

  • Changes to name, brand or description:

    • are implemented immediately

  • Changes to channel templates:

    • only apply to newly created meters

    • existing meters remain unchanged

Removing models

  • Models are soft-deleted

  • They continue to exist for:

    • historical references

    • existing meters

  • Deleted models are hidden from selection lists by default

Problem

Solution

Model cannot be edited

Verify you are a Tenant Administrator

Model removed but still visible

The model has been soft deleted; check display settings

Channel templates are missing

Add templates to the model

Meter not receiving channels

Check if channel templates were applied during creation

Can I delete a model that is already in use?
Yes. The model will be soft-deleted; existing meters will continue to use the model.

What happens if I change channel templates?
Only new meters will use the custom templates.

Why don't I see the 'Add' button?
Only Tenant Administrators can create models.

Can I have multiple models with the same name?
Yes, as long as the combination of Brand Name + Name is unique.

Are channel templates required?
No, but they save time and prevent configuration errors.

Can I find out which meters use a model?
In meter overviews, the model is shown per meter as Brand – Model.

  • Model – Definition of a meter device with brand, name and channel templates

  • Brand Name – Manufacturer of the measuring device

  • Channel Template – Predefined channel configuration

  • Soft delete – Delete without physically removing from the system

  • Tenant Administrator – User with full configuration rights

  • Meter – Physical or virtual measuring device

  • Channel – Measuring point within a meter (e.g. electricity consumption)
